Primary Humanities Curriculum
In Rashid School the role of Humanities is to understand the relationships between places, the human and physical processes that shape them, the people who live in them. and their development over a period of time. It is essential that the boys in RSB are made aware that they are part of the immediate cosmopolitan society around them in Dubai and the wider world, and the impact that others and the environment have upon them and the impact of their own actions upon others and their environment.
Foundation Stage
The boys are supported in developing the knowledge ,skills and understanding that help them make sense of the world .Their learning is supported by offering opportunities to use a range of tools safely; encounter creatures ,people plants and objects in their natural environments and in real-life situations ; undertake practical experiments; and work with a range of materials.
Key Stage 1
The main focus in KS1 is the acquisition of English language both oral and written. Since the introduction of RWI programme in English the emphasis in Humanities has had to follow a similar approach, with the objectives being priortised and tackled in trips, activities, and assemblies Gives a reason for an event or action relating to other people in other times..
- Recognises differences between ways of life in the past
- Show awareness and understanding orally, visually and in writing.
Key Stage 2
Although RWI is still applied in KS2, there is an opportunity to cover Humanities more widely with a focus on the boys ability to;
- Describe the links between different features of past situations.
- Describe the actions of people in distant and unfamiliar historical settings.
- Provide more general and impersonal reasons for events.
- Explain the way events or actions have several linked causes and outcomes.
- Use a broad range of historical terms and dates accurately in relation to the period studied.
- Describe cause and consequence in relation to abstract ideas. Produce structured narratives and descriptions.
- Identify sources that are useful for specific enquiries.
