Primary PSHE Curriculum
PSHE aims to give children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. PSHE helps children develop as members of schools, neighborhoods and wider communities. Based on these principles the students have become involved with several local campaigns such as The Shoe Box Appeal, Clean Up Dubai and Buckle up in the Back Dubai campaign. It is concerned with issues of right and wrong, rights and responsibilities, fairness, rules and laws, equality and diversity, communities and identities, conflict and cooperation. In 2011 we are concentrating on 3 SEAL topics: The Community: Bullying: and Relationships.
Foundation Stage
PSHE is concerned with wellbeing - knowing who you are, where you fit in, and feeling good about yourself. It is also about developing respect for others, social competence and a positive disposition to learn.
A child will develop a love of learning, have strong self-esteem and learn to value and respect others.
In Key Stage 1
PSHE lessons will encourage your child to develop awareness about his/herself as an individual and as a member of the community. Topics such as basic rules and skills for staying healthy and safe and for behaving well will be covered. They begin to learn about their own and other people's feelings and become aware of the views, needs and rights of other children and older people. They learn social skills such as how to share, take turns, play, help others, resolve simple arguments and resist bullying. They begin to take an active part in the life of their school and its neighbourhood.
In Key Stage 2
Some of the same core topics are revisited in Key Stage 2 but with a greater level of independence, the expectations of the students are heightened. There are additional topics introduced which are more relevant to older students. Team captains in Key Stage 2 have recently been introduced and with the many jobs and responsibilities they have been given, have earned the respect and trust of staff and students alike. In Year 6, the students are also prepared for Friendship games and visit a number of Special Needs Schools in Dubai. In September it is hoped that a new initiative will be introduced : R.S.B. Community Service. This will encourage students to spend some time out of school giving something back to the community.
