Shakespeare Festival 2012

This year's Shakespeare festival, which took place on Monday 2nd April, was a resounding success.

In the morning, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 performed a variety of extracts from their set texts. First off were Year 7 who scared the living daylights out of everyone with their very spooky witch scenes from Macbeth. Year 8 made us all laugh with their versions of Twelfth Night with a special mention to Saeed Al Ameri for a very convincing performance. Year 9 presented scenes from Romeo and Juliet with the unfortunate Mercutio getting killed at least four times – poor man. 9A added rap music, techno dance and other Americana to their version which was very popular with the masses. Once again, Mohammed Al Hareb wowed the audience with his razor-sharp body-popping.

In the afternoon, the students competed against each other in their teams in a variety of activities. These included: internet-based language games and research in the LRC; making Elizabethan ruffs and theatres; and various fun, text-based activities.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success.

Drop Everything And Read Day

BookfairMonday 30 April was Drop Everything And Read Day at Rashid School. The focus of the day was to celebrate reading and began with an assembly, led by headmaster, Mr. Kilsby and was then followed by a few minutes of silent reading by all students and staff. Mr Kilsby introduced the day by talking about the different technologies available that now enable us all to read, from using hand held devices such as e-readers and tablets, to more traditional printed books. Teachers then dedicated part of their lessons throughout the day to a variety of activities to encourage students to read to support their learning.

Senior Football Success

Yesterday, 16th November, saw an outstanding performance by our Senior football team.  The game was 6 - 0 win for RSB against a very good team from EIS Meadows.  However, it was not the score that most pleased the staff who watched the game, but the skill, good humour and team work that were most impressive.

Deputy Head, Mark Shahparaki, said that in 20 years of watching school football, it was the most impressive display he has seen.   Congratulations to all the team, and to their coach, Kevin Scorah.
