The English department follows the English National Curriculum in years 7 to 9. In years 12 and 13 International AS English Language and AS and A2 English Literature are offered. The majority of our students however, undertake the HSD English programme which prepares them for TOEFL, SATs and CEPA examinations.
Their aim is to make each pupil a confident communicator in English – both written and oral. In addition, the department fosters an enjoyment and interest in reading and literature. What's more they pride themselves on delivering enjoyable and effective lessons, utilising the latest web, computer and smart board technologies.
Throughout the year there are many opportunities for students to get involved in various activites including the annual Shakespeare Festival, public debates, theatre trips, drama workshops as well as the bi-annual School Production (2010-11 Stone Soup, 2008-09 Ratz, 2007-08 The Thwarting of Baron Bollingrew...)
The department has six members of staff, with a wealth of teaching experience from around the world. In addition, many of the team have additional responsibilities in the school.
The English department has a key role in fostering awareness of language issues across the school. They work closely with management, the Primary Section, Learning Support staff and others to exemplify good practice and to foster a coordinated approach to language policy.
