The ICT Department

Rashid School for Boys is equipped with an advanced, up to date network system that allows students and staff to work in both Arabic and English. We have two purpose built ICT rooms, two digital research rooms and three open area clusters of computers.

Information Technology plays a very important role at Rashid School. Students and staff are encouraged to develop their ICT skills and to use their ICT skills in the classroom. The ICT department believes that Information and Communication Technology skills should be available to all.

To ensure this and to provide students with the confidence to use ICT in other areas, the teaching of this subject focuses on the tools aspect, that is the practical application of skills learned. Every pupil has a one hour formal ICT lesson per week, leading them to formal external qualifications.

Some of the skills areas we cover are:

Word-processing, Desk Top Publishing, Presentation skills Database , Graphics Modelling, Spreadsheets, Internet Use, Web Publishing, Animation, Control & Measurement and Health & Safety

These skill areas are dealt with in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9. All students are encouraged to follow GCSE ICT during year 10 and 11.

We endeavour to keep this subject as practical as possible, with lots of emphasis on practical work and projects. Much of the work is related to actual events which take place in the school or Dubai. See some of the examples of student work in our student work page.
