Keep on Running

Students and staff supported the Dubai Marathon this weekend, with members of the school taking part in all three events: 3k, 10k and Marathon.  Particularly impressive was the performance of our Primary students who ran in the 3k Fun Race.

Miss Olive completed the 10k race and three of us; Mr Kingsley, Mr Boyle and I competed in the Marathon.

The day before the event RSB welcomed two outstanding Kenyan runners, Henry Wanyoike and Joseph Kibunja, who spoke to students about overcoming challenges and reaching your goal.  Henry lost his sight at the age of 21 and runs with Joseph as his sighted guide.  They are championship and medal winners at 5k, 10k Half and full Marathon distances.  It was inspiring to listen to them and wonderful to welcome them tothe school.

Welcome to 2012

It is a great pleasure to welcome staff and students to the New Year and I am certain 2012 will bring us a wide range of exciting learning opportunities.  Plans are well under way for RSB's first trip to Borneo, in April, and this is will be a trip of a life-time for those involved.  Sixteen Year 12 students will be exploring the island, climbing its highest mountain and finding out about the people live in this tropical environment.

BSME Accreditation Visit

In December 2011 RSB welcomed an Accreditaion Team from British Schools in The Middle East.  We have been members of BSME for many years and are now going through the process of full accreditation.  Once this is complete it will enable parents, staff and the local community to know that we have met the quality standards expected by this organisation.

We have received a first draft of their report and I am delighted with the many very positive things which have been said about the school.

RSB Celebrate UAE National Day

I would like to wish all the friends of RSB a very enjoyable UAE National Day.  We celebrated with a wonderful concert on our playing fields that brought together our Primary and Secondary students.

Fifty of our students from Year 2 to  Year 12 also visited The English College, where they gave a fantastic display of local music, poetry and dance.   A huge 'thank you' to all concerned.

RSB prepares for National Day

Throughout the school students and staff have been preparing for the year's National Day.  Earlier this week five of our Year 12 students visited the Primary Section where they interviewed our Year 6 pupils to find out what this special 40th National Day means tothem.  You can read their report here: Year 6 students reveal why National Day is important to them

What we value at RSB

This year the whole school is going to focus on 'Values at RSB'.  The school year started with teachers and support staff working to identify what is important to us, as a school.  We are now involving students in the process and are developing three groups of values built around the words: Learning, Leadership and Respect

We will soon be sharing our thoughts on the website and will be asking for suggestions from parents and the wider community.

Welcome to the Headmaster's Blog

The aim of the new RSB website is to develop an interactive, up-to-date forum that will keep students, parents and friends of the school well informed and involved with Rashid School and its developments.  I intend to use this 'Head's Blog' to focus in on successes at the school and on items that I feel are important for the school community.
